Presentation

XXI (The Vinyl Box Set) is a compilation released on December 4, 2015 to celebrate Rammstein's 21st anniversary. It includes the six albums of Rammstein released so far, plus "Raritäten", a seventh album of b-sides. Each album has been remastered for the occasion and pressed on two 12-inch and 180-gram vinyls. Some songs have even been modified (see the "differences" section below).

When XXI was released, it was the first time the albums Herzeleid, Sehnsucht, Reise, Reise and Rosenrot were released on vinyl, and the first time Mutter was released on double vinyl. The six studio albums have since been released on double LPs individually. XXI also offers the exclusive "Full Band" version of Los, with electric guitar and new choruses.

There are only 14,000 copies of XXI worldwide. In addition, a contest on Rammstein's official store allowed a fan to win a unique edition of XXI, customized according to his favorite songs.

There is a mistake on the box set. The Halleluja song is indicated as coming from the single Links 2-3-4 released in 1998, whereas it was released in 2001.

Differences

The covers and booklets of the vinyls of XXI have been slightly reworked: 12-inch scaling, credit updates (removal of Pilgrim, the company of former manager Emmanuel Fialik), etc. Some songs have been modified compared to their original version. Here are the differences (thanks to RammWiki.net):

Mutter

  • After the solo in Spieluhr, Till repeats two lines, extending the chorus.
  • The transition between Rein raus and Adios has been removed, due to the vinyl separation.

Reise, Reise

  • The transition between Dalai Lama and Keine Lust has been removed, due to the vinyl separation.
  • The transition between Amerika and Moskau has been removed, due to the vinyl separation.
  • During Stein um Stein, the ramm from the line Wenn ich sie in dein Leibholz ramm has been repeated while the pause.

Rosenrot

  • During the first chorus of Benzin two of the Benzin were moved to the main riff before the second verse.
  • Spring includes one previously unreleased line.
  • All the female background voices and shouts on Te Quiero Puta! were removed and the female vocals on the bridge changed.

Raritäten

  • The intro of Das Modell was edited heavily.
  • Donaukinder is missing the guitar solo, has the children choir sung without Till and a different synth whilst the last refrain.
